The Northfield Ward audit commenced in January 2007 and benefits from the Neighbourhood workers service which consists of 2 neighourhood workers who are based on the ward.
The main roads that were audited were linked with specific neighbourhoods to ensure the audit process was carried out as in depth as possible. All land ownership was taken into account this included private land ownership, city council land and private business premises. The Environmental audit identified that there were 590 issues within the Northfield Ward, the main issues were problems with litter,graffiti and fly tipping.
Within the Northfield Ward, there is an active environmental residents' group known as The Rea Valley Environment & Flood Action Group (FLAG). Our group meets regularly during the year with its main aim to continue to work with council officers, local councillors, our MP and other agencies in trying to ensure that we have four main aims;
1. Ongoing maintenance of the River Rea and adjacent areas
2. An adequate and well maintained drainage system
3. Basic flood defence measures
4. improvements to the local environment
Our main priority is working with Birmingham City Council Departments and other agencies to maintain and improve flood defences. We are affliated to the National Flood Forum. We work closely with the Environment Agency and keep in regular contact with other residents groups along the River Rea
